Falls Creek Federation square launch, Galvartrons go off

Fed Square Melbourne got cool Friday night when Falls Creek and MTV launched the 2009 snow jam. . The Galvatrons rocked to a big crowd who scrambled to grab two-for-one lift ticket coupons caps and other giveaways.

Get ready for the coolest gig (literally) this winter!

MTV Snow Jam is back for another year, and this time, we're taking it local.

On Thursday 30 July, Falls Creek Victoria will host the hottest acts that are sure to warm your icy appendages, including internationally acclaimed acts Cut Copy DJs and rapper Phrase.

For the last two years, MTV Snow Jam has braved the frost bitten extremities of New Zealand's South Island to bring you unforgettable performances from Lupe Fiasco, Savage and Mareko, The Mint Chicks, The Vines, Donavon Frankenreiter, The Grates, The Potbelleez, Cut Off Your Hands, P-Money, PNC, David Dallas, Opshop, Trouble Andrew and Phinesse, all to the incredible backdrop of clear skies and snow-flanked mountains...

MTV Snow Jam will air on MTV Australia Saturday 15 August at 5pm so lock it in!

GETTING THERE

Falls Creek is located 356 kms from Melbourne in the heart of the Victorian snowfields.

By Car: There is an excellent sealed road right to the resort with ample parking for over 2000 cars. Ensure you bring chains for your tyres and fit them when advised. Also make sure your car has the required amount of anti-freeze in the radiator for alpine conditions of -10 degrees.

Alternatively, cars can be left in the security car park at Mt. Beauty (30 kms downhill), with a coach service direct to the resort.

From Melbourne: Falls Creek is approximately 4.5 hours from the outskirts of Melbourne. Take the Hume Highway to near Wangaratta. Turn off14km after the 2 McDonald stores near Glenrowan and drive through Myrtleford and Mt. Beauty to Falls Creek. Along the way enjoy the wineries and gourmet delights in the regional townships.

If you feel like relaxing, take the Falls Creek Coach service departing Melbourne daily (bookings essential) during specified times of the season. Phone Falls Creek Reservations on 1800 45 35 25 for more information.

From Sydney: Falls Creek is 690 kms from Sydney (8 hours drive), It's a comfortable drive and when you get closer you can relax in one of the many wineries along the way.

From Canberra: 506 kms. 5.5 hours drive. Make sure you take the time to stop at the many gourmet destinations in the valley.

From Adelaide: A nice run through some of Victoria's fabulous countryside. It takes around 11 hours, is 958 kms and there's plenty to see and do along the way. Ski Connection have special coaches direct to Falls Creek which makes life comfortable and relaxing.

From Brisbane: Falls Creek is the closest Australian resort to drive to from Brisbane. Extraordinary but true, we're closer to drive to than the NSW resorts and any other Victorian resort. Just travel down the Newell Highway and head to Albury, turn left then head up to Falls Creek. Easy and hassle free. 1537 kms 17 hours. Naturally you can take your time once you hit the Kiewa Valley and plan your trip to take in some of the gourmet delights including wineries and local produce.

Of course there's the option of flying with QantasLink or Virgin to Albury via Sydney from any destination in Australia. Easy, hassle free and quick.

By Coach: Falls Creek Coaches offer daily services between Melbourne, Albury and Mt. Beauty. Ski Connection services Adelaide. Contact your local travel agent or Falls Creek Reservations Centre on 1800 45 35 25 for more information.

By plane: Fly to Albury airport. A coach connection will then travel directly to Falls Creek (120 kms). The journey from Albury to Falls Creek by coach is approximately 2 hours. 1.45 hours if you self-drive. QantasLink and Virgin Blue connect with all capital cities to Albury for coach connections to Falls Creek.

Regional Airlines Express - REX - operate regular flights from Melbourne and Sydney with connections to Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, Darwin and Perth.
