Rainbow Ski Area Opens This Saturday
Jul 01, 2009 / 12:16:39 PM

The time has come. Rainbow will open this Saturday the 4th of July for the 2009 season. ?We have a good 50 cm of snow around the base area thanks to our tireless team of Snow makers who work through the cold and dark hours to bring us snow. The intermediate platter and learners areas will be operating. There is not enough cover to open the upper field at this stage, however the weather pattern for the next week is looking productive with plenty of Natural Snow on the way so fingers crossed.
One things for sure - we are ready.?A special thanks goes to all of our volunteer members and supporting businesses who have contributed over 150 man-days of labour since end-February. This outstanding effort is conservatively valued (including materials, and volunteer committee time) at over $100,000. Without this contribution your club would have to fund these activities through increased ticket prices and other fund-raising.
Work has included major repairs on Tower 12 foundations, and maintenance and repairs on base buildings. We now have a flash new race control HQ. And there is a new tubing park nearing completion.(watch this space) ??There have been significant access road improvements included spreading and grading of a new surface on our road by Edridge Contracting, Pelorus. You will notice the difference as soon as you hit the access road. Our main groomer received maintenance and repair by a team in Blenheim under the leadership of Matt Spragg at Pirtek Ltd. All summer program contributors will soon be receiving their complimentary passes. Thanks everyone, a great effort.
